Firewood,
an ecological and sustainable fuel

Firewood is regaining importance.
After the 2nd World War, firewood was increasingly replaced by 'cheaper' fuels such as oil, gas and electricity.
Interest in firewood has increased again distinctly since the early seventies. The main reasons for this include the rapid consumption of fossil fuels and the associated increasing significance of the greenhouse effect as well as the dangerous dependence on these sources of energy.

Environmental significance.
The ecological advantage of firewood as an alternative to the limited fossil fuel resources (e.g. oil, coal and gas) is becoming more and more important.
The combustion of oil is associated with a formation of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other products. An excessive increase in the proportion of this gas in the atmosphere will promote the greenhouse effect and the associated undesirable increase in temperature of the surface of the earth.
Forests use up atmospheric carbon dioxide in the course of the growing process of its trees, binding it in the wood.
Our forests are made use of in a sustainable manner. This means that at least the same quantity of wood which is harvested or burned in a particular period of time is replaced by forest regrowth. Utilisation of a forest is always CO2 neutral, whether the wood lies slowly rotting in the forest or if it is burned. In contrast to this, the combustion of oil and gas is accompanied by the release of CO2 previously bound in the earth and the accumulation of the gas the atmosphere. It should also be taken into consideration that poor fuel quality leads to higher emissions.

Woodmax - our contribution.
An important factor in an economically sensible utilisation of wood as a fuel, is its efficient preparation and delivery. The faster drying time of the cut wood facilitated by Woodmax results in economic and ecological advantages. The short drying time increases fuel quality, reduces capital commitment and reduces storage costs.

A word of advice on buying firewood.
Make sure that you always get good quality firewood from your supplier and burn only completely dry firewood - this allows you to make an important contribution to the ecological balance of wood as a fuel.

The thermal ventilation of the palletised wood allows wood fresh from the forest to dry in less than 8 months.

Split and cut wood is bundled horizontally and allowed to dry in a sunny, well-ventilated location.
